Scanning meals

How does a photo scan work?

The app's AI looks at your photo, finds each food and guesses how much there is. The calories and nutrients then come from a nutrition database. Foods marked "Estimated" were not in the database, so the number is the AI's own estimate. "From label" means the numbers were read from a nutrition label in the photo.

The scan got something wrong. What can I do?

Tap the food to change it or its amount before you save. Your corrections teach the app: it remembers your usual portions, and corrections from many people make scans better for everyone.

Tips for better scans

Can I scan a photo I already took?

Yes. On the Scan screen, tap the photo button to the left of the shutter.

Your calorie target

How is my target worked out?

From your sex, age, height, weight, activity level and goal, using a standard formula (Mifflin–St Jeor). After about two weeks of logging meals and a few weigh-ins, the app can suggest a better target based on your real weight trend.

How do I change my goal, weight or units?

Go to Me and tap Change my goal. Units (metric or US) are under Me → Settings.

Privacy and your data

Are my photos kept?

Only if you turn on Me → Privacy → Help improve food recognition. It is off unless you say yes, and turning it off deletes your stored photos.

How do I delete my account?

In the app: Me → Privacy → Delete my account and data. More options: Delete your account.

How do I change my ad choices?

Where the law requires it, tap Me → Privacy → Ad privacy choices. On iPhone, you can also use Settings → Privacy & Security → Tracking.
