Terms of Use

Pixel Plate · Last updated: October 29, 2026

These terms are an agreement between you and Derek Jia-Ching Lian, trading as Pixel Plate Labs ("we", "us"), about your use of the Pixel Plate app ("the app"). By using the app, you agree to these terms. If you don't agree, please don't use the app.

1. Who can use the app

You must be at least 13 years old. If you are under 18, or under the age of adulthood where you live, please use the app with a parent's or guardian's permission.

2. Estimates only, not medical advice

The calories, nutrients, portion sizes and daily targets shown in the app are estimates. Photo scans use artificial intelligence (AI), which can make mistakes: it may identify the wrong food or guess the wrong amount. Always check results before saving them.

The app is not a medical device and does not diagnose, treat or prevent any condition. It does not replace advice from a doctor or dietitian. Please talk to a health professional before changing your diet, especially if you are pregnant or breastfeeding, have a medical condition, take medication, or have a history of eating disorders. If you are struggling with food or your body, please reach out for support, for example through findahelpline.com.

3. Your account

The app creates an anonymous account on your phone. If you delete the app or lose your phone, your data may not be recoverable. You can delete your account at any time (see Delete your account).

4. The app is free and shows ads

The app is free to use and is paid for by advertising. To protect the service from abuse, there is a daily limit on photo scans that normal use does not reach. We may change, add or remove features at any time.

5. Acceptable use

Please don't:

6. Your photos and data

You keep ownership of your photos and data. You allow us to use them to run the app for you, as described in the Privacy Policy. If you turn on "Help improve food recognition", you also allow us to keep your meal photos and use them to improve food recognition. You can turn this off at any time, and your stored photos are then deleted.

7. Food data from others

Nutrition data comes from USDA FoodData Central (public domain). Packaged-product data comes from Open Food Facts, available under the Open Database License. This data is provided by others and may contain errors.

8. No warranty

The app is provided "as is" and "as available". As far as the law allows, we make no promises that it will always work, be error-free, or that its estimates will be accurate.

9. Limit of liability

As far as the law allows, we are not liable for any indirect or consequential loss, or for any loss caused by relying on the app's estimates. Our total liability to you is limited to 50 US dollars. Nothing in these terms limits liability that cannot be limited by law, such as for death or personal injury caused by negligence, or your rights as a consumer where you live.

10. Ending these terms

You can stop using the app and delete your account at any time. We may suspend or end your access if you break these terms or misuse the service.

11. Apple and Google

If you downloaded the app from the Apple App Store, these terms are between you and us, not Apple. Apple is not responsible for the app or its content and has no duty to provide support. Apple and its subsidiaries are third-party beneficiaries of these terms and may enforce them. If anything in these terms conflicts with Apple's Licensed Application End User License Agreement, these terms apply where the conflict allows. If you downloaded the app from Google Play, Google Play's terms also apply.

12. Changes

We may update these terms. We will change the date at the top, and for important changes we will tell you in the app. If you keep using the app after a change, the new terms apply.

13. Law

These terms are governed by the laws of the State of Indiana, USA. If you are a consumer, you also keep the protection of the mandatory laws of the country where you live.
